Information in English

Oslo Summer School is a free offer for children living in Oslo. We have courses adapted to all school grades, from 1st to 10th grade. The offer supports the school’s work with academic and social learning, beyond the ordinary school year. Our courses are based on exploration and curiosity, where children with common interests can meet across school catchment areas. Together, the children explore innovative and relevant topics, which are based on what they learn at school. Through fun and practical activities, we strive to motivate more learning. Learning should be fun!

Our courses take place in the first and last two weeks of the school’s summer holidays (week 26, 27, 32 and 33). Each course lasts one week.

You can apply from 17th March at 09:00 to 25th March at 16:00 by logging in via www.sommerskolenoslo.no

The course places are allocated by lottery, which takes place after the application period is closed. Each student receives either one course place or a place on a waiting list. On 7th April, you will be notified via e-mail and SMS regarding which course or waitlist place your child has been given.

No, you can only attend one week.

You can only apply for courses that correspond to the grade you are attending in spring 2025.

Oslo Summer School is a large event with many course groups. Course places are allocated by lottery in our application system, so we are not able to influence who gets a place and who doesn’t. It may still be a good idea to have the same priority when you rank which courses you apply for.

If your child needs extra accommodation, tick the box behov for tilretteleggingwhen you apply for a course place. If you are unsure whether your child needs specific accommodations or aids, you can contact us before applying for a course place.

How to apply for a course place

Other courses

Oslo Summer School also offers other courses beyond the regular course offer.

Intensive swimming

Students enrolled in grade 4.-10, who have not learned to swim after the compulsory swimming lessons at school, are offered intensive swimming courses through Oslo Summer School. The courses last for one week, and the children receive 45 minutes of swimming training each day.

Norwegian for newly arrived students

We offer beginner training in the Norwegian language for students who have been in Norway for a short period of time. The course introduces Oslo with excursions to the city’s famous attractions, classroom teaching and social activities. The groups are divided according to Norwegian level. There will be three teachers who have extensive experience working with minority students.

  • Students in grade 3-10 (Språksenteret): The course provides a basic introduction to the Norwegian language, combined with swimming or outdoor activities.
  • Students in upper secondary education (Kuben vgs): The course introduces the Norwegian language combined with activities and excursions.
  • Registration is from April 8th 09:00. The deadline for registration is June 5th at 16:00

Specific accommodation or aids

If your child needs specific accommodations or aids beyond ordinary adaptations in school, we kindly ask that you inform us about this. When applying for a course place, it is possible to tick the box for specific accommodation or aids (in Norwegian it is «behov for tilrettelegging”). If the student needs one or more of the items in the list below, we ask that you tick the box:

  • Support assistant
  • GetToKnow meeting with staff at the course location (held on Saturday before the start of the course)
  • Intimate care (change of diaper, or other assistance of intimate character)
  • Sign language interpreter
  • Separate technical equipment in the classroom (e.g. sound leveling equipment, visually impaired equipment or similar)

If you are unsure whether your child needs adaptation, you can contact us before applying for a course place. From 25th of March, after the application period has closed, we will contact those who have been given a course place and who have ticked the box for specific accommodation or aids.
